About Emily…

I wonder if you are having one of my favorite moments right now?

You know, the  moments where you sit still for five minutes (just pretend it’s five minutes)  to take a break, and fill your bucket, and breathe?

If this is one of those moments, then thank you for letting me be a part of your sitting still.  I wish we were sitting still on my front porch drinking homemade lemonade, and talking…

Since you have arrived at this page then perhaps you would like to know a little more about me.

I am a wife, mother to 4, guardian to 1.  Greg is the love of my life, the steadying of my heart, the companion I want to grow old with.  Caleb is my wisdom, Josh is my strength, Meg is my joy, Grace is my miracle, and Garett is my understanding.  They, together, are the parade of my life that I love to sit on the sidelines and watch.

My days are filled with living by the advice found in Peter, love life, and see good days, and do good.  I know what it is to work hard, to give.  Some days have been filled with sorrow and heartache, and others with unmistakable happiness ––with joy overflowing.  Looking back I would say my cup runneth over.  Sometimes, late at night, I write about all of those days.  The words have filled many books.  I recognize that as a great privilege.

In October I decided to begin a blog.  It is something I never have done before.  For two months I sat patient, waiting for inspiration to come to my heart.  I did not want to write a blog about me.  There is nothing amazing about my life, it is filled with laundry, and dishes in the sink, and following behind the busyness  ––hanging the backpacks in the kitchen, putting the shoes in the closet, starting the dinner.  You know.  You know.

In the quiet moments it became clear…my heart wanted to write a blog about Him.  The One who brings the miracles in the ordinary moments.  The tender behind the mercy.  The unconditional behind the love.  The height, breadth, and depth behind the understanding.  I wanted to write a witness of the hand of the Lord each day in my life.  The strength beyond my own.

In the inmost part of my heart that is the blog I hope this will be.  So, I place that heartfelt desire into the hands of the Lord and simply pray that I might be the writing instrument that will allow His words to fill these pages.

If you are in the middle moments of a long or difficult journey, if you are tired and in need of a rest, if you just want to laugh a little and cry a little, if you are yearning for something more, if you are in deep trouble and you are looking for courage, or if your heart is weary or despairing and you are looking for strength to go on, then you have come to the right place.

Hopefully this simple blog is just what you need.  Here is my promise to you:  Each day at least one verse of His Word will fill these pages.  Within those words we will find courage and strength and joy.

Both of us.

Through Him.

Emily Freeman

Hi Emily!
I wanted to take a second and let you know a little something. A few months ago you spoke in the Draper Utah Stake to the youth and leaders. I was there and was so touched and entertained by your “realness”. You mentioned that evening that in 2012 you were going to read ALL the books of scripture in a year. I think you said 7 pages a day will do it (I hope I remember right-if not maybe you can LMK). And you mentioned that anyone else who wanted to follow suit could…A simple thing you mentioned and it has stayed with me-so last week-the start of a new year I told myself that it was time to get started! Well…I started reading in the Book of Mormon and I started hearing of this friend that was reading the BofM by April Conference, another friend showed me a reading guide with talks and cross references for reading the BofM in a year-really studying it and I became so confused. So I started feeling confused about what I should do. So a week has gone by and I haven’t made any significant progress in any direction so this morning; I said a prayer and asked what the best thing and way to enjoy the scriptures would be. And I recieved the answer-It is to read ALL the books of scripture in a year. I haven’t read the Old Testament or New Testament from front to end before and I’m not sure about the Doctorine and Covenants. But the BofM-I love that book and know it best so of all the years to be capable to read the study guide before gospel doctorine and have a good idea and familarity of what we will discusss-this is the year! This ended up being long…sorry, but in some small way-you have been an instrument in helping me to do something that I know will bless my life and provide a great amount of growth! Thank you for having this blog so that I could find and tell you-I also look forward to daily tidbits in my email:). Have a fabulous day! Love, Janell

I stumbled upon your blog through a post of Hillary Weeks’ and since I was familiar with you from TOFW, I was very excited to check it out. I am so grateful that through our stumbles we often find treasures. I have striven to have a better understanding of scripture and some of it’s symbolism – you have helped me to enlarge that seeking. Thank you for sharing your insight and your testimony. You are on my blog feed now and I am always excited to see a new post and wait until I have a few minutes to absorb it.

Hi Emily, Back in February good friends introduced me to your reading challenge. At that time my personal reading challenge was to read the Book of Mormon starting the first of January so, last Saturday I finished reading it and now I can follow your reading schedule. I must say that this is my very first attempt to read the Bible, I scared me to dead and it really did not appeal to me so I gladly accepted the challenge. For the last tree days now that I have found enormous richness and knowledge with the scriptures. I am glad I am doing it because I am complementing all the teaching of the Book of Mormon and are complementing each other. Thank you for your comments and your blog, That helps me enormously to breach that apathy I had for such wonderful scriptures. I am loving it! and look forward to make it a daily retreat for the rest of my life.
