A Reminder

Is it true, I wonder, that every time God created something He stood back and knew that it was good?

I read it in the second chapter of Moses

“…and I, God, saw that all things which I had created were good.” (Moses 2:21)

And again, in the third chapter of Abraham just before the creation

“…he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good;” (Abraham 3:23)

And this weekend we will read it again in the first chapter of Genesis

“…and God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”  (Genesis 1:31)

I believe that when the scriptures teach us something with repetition it must be something the Lord wants us to remember and never forget.  What is it about that doctrine that is so important it needed to be repeated three times in a row?  I am certain there are many important lessons repeated in those chapters.  But the one that stands out to me today is this…

God created you.

Which means He knows that you are good.

And not just good, very good.

He believes that about you…

Even on your messiest days.

So when things don’t seem to be going exactly right, when the whole world seems to be crashing down around you, when you aren’t quite sure if you are any good at anything you might want to turn to Moses, or Abraham, or Genesis and be reminded…

God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold,

it was very good.

And on the days you are in particular need of that reminder, maybe you could also gain strength from one more lesson that is repeated in all three chapters.

“And I, God, created man in mine own image…male and female created I them.  And I, God, blessed them.” (Moses 2:27,28 emphasis added.)

“So the Gods went down to organize man in their own image…male and female to form they them.  And the Gods said: We will bless them.” (Abraham 4:28 emphasis added)

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  And God blessed them...” (Genesis 1:27,28 emphasis added.)

The profound thought of God creating us, and knowing the good in each of us, and then blessing us gives me courage, and strength, and hope.

As you enter this weekend I hope there are two things that you will remember and never forget.

You are good.

You are blessed.

And if you ever need a reminder just turn to Moses…or Abraham…or Genesis.  It is right there.  A letter from home.

A reminder of God’s love.

I was led to your blog by Hilary Weeks. Thanks so much for your message! I really needed this reminder today! In this world it is so easy to forget who we truly are and get down on ourselves. Thanks for the reminder that I am a Child of God and that He created me, that I am good and that I am blessed!

These are great take always. As I’ve read I felt like I went to the temple a couple of times. I’m not sure I before realized how complete genesis is relative to the pearl of great price. But I think you have captured one of the greatest lessons from the creation.

I also found another message in “God saw everything He made and it was good.” When I “create” something it is okay to take joy and satisfaction in it, to delight in it for God saw the good in His creations. As He is whom we should emulate, He has provided the lesson that it is okay to acknowledge the good in that which we “create”.
